La Vida en Rosa (Vanitas) / The Pink Life (Vanitas)
Edith Pons, 2025
Oil on canvas
79.5 × 70 cm
Unique piece
This piece inaugurates the VANITAS series, a body of work devoted to reflecting on the fragility of existence and the subtle forms of human self-deception.
Within an atmosphere dominated by pink hues —symbols of the seduction of the superficial— the classical elements of vanity unfold: exuberant flowers announcing the passage of time, a world fragile as crystal, and a mask embodying lies, deception, and appearance.
Added to these are grapes as an image of immediate pleasure and excess, and silk laid out like a tablecloth, evoking ostentation and attachment to material wealth. Everything appears gentle, delicate, and beautiful, while time runs silently beneath the surface.
This work does not seek to condemn, but to reveal. The sweetness of color and the richness of painterly language envelop an uncomfortable truth: beauty can become a veil when it is separated from truth.
La Vida en Rosa (Vanitas) invites slow and honest contemplation, reminding us that what most seduces the eye is not always what endures.
